At St. Anthony's Family Birth Center, new moms and babies enjoy one-on-one attention from experienced and caring staff using the very latest technology — all in beautiful and comfortable surroundings. We offer a broad range of obstetrical services to support women — and their families during this exciting time.

Features

Designed to make each delivery special, our Family Birth Center includes:

  • Nine beautiful labor-delivery-recovery suites are attractively decorated in a home-like setting. The rooms — among the largest in St. Louis — feature televisions, VCRs/DVDs, recliners and ceiling fans.
  • Two fully-equipped Cesarean-section birth rooms.
  • Three recovery rooms for moms who need extra care following a Cesarean birth.
  • 16 private postpartum rooms, where babies are welcome to room-in with their moms and fathers, grandparents and other support-givers have open visitation.
  • A newborn nursery, close to mom's room.
  • A special care nursery, where experienced neonatologists from Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital provide exceptional care to babies with special needs.
  • Neonatal nurse practitioners available on site 24-hours-a-day to care for babies with special needs, as well as access to pediatric cardiologists and other specialists.
  • A special security system, including electronic video monitoring and automated door locks at all exits for added safety.

Postpartum Services and Programs

New moms and their babies are encouraged to return to St. Anthony's Postpartum Care Center about a week after leaving the Family Birth Center for a free follow-up assessment. This assessment by one of our qualified maternity and neonatal nurses will assess the physical and emotional well-being of both mom and baby. The visit offers the opportunity to ask questions and obtain information. In addition, postpartum care nurses are available for phone consultations 24 hours a day.

A certified lactation consultant is available before, during and after your hospital stay to assist you with breastfeeding your baby. No fee is charged for any lactation services.

St. Anthony's Family Birth Center also offers other unique services, including an infant touch program, funded by the Missouri Children's Trust Fund and St. Anthony's Medical Center Auxiliary, that is designed to reduce child abuse and neglect.

Also, newborn hearing screenings are performed on every newborn delivered at St. Anthony's Family Birth Center.

Our New Moms Network enables you to connect with other moms and swap information or ask questions — it's an extended circle of friends to help you as your family grows!
