The first qualities most people notice about Patrick Adams are his nice smile and his friendliness, and Adams is quick to detect those attributes in others. The 42-year-old Oakville resident takes pride not only in helping out at St. Anthony’s, but also genuinely enjoys getting to know the patients, their families, other volunteers and employees.
Every Monday and Wednesday, Adams busies himself on the hospital’s fourth floor in Acute Rehab, where he transports the patients there to therapy.
“It’s a real blessing to work in Acute Rehab,” said Adams, a 10-year veteran and the youngest active adult volunteer at St. Anthony’s. “I feel that’s where God wants me to be now.”
He is one of more than 500 active volunteers who serve throughout the medical center.
In fiscal year 2009-10, based on a value of $18.89 per hour, St. Anthony’s volunteers and members of the Auxiliary of St. Anthony’s contributed 64,664.85 volunteer hours, for a yearly investment of more than $1.2 million in the medical center.
Our volunteers are a truly wonderful group of folks that we simply could not function without. Their dedicated service throughout the hospital is so valuable and precious.
