South County Emergency

In South County, Emergency Care
Is Now Better and Faster. Introducing Our Rebuilt Emergency Department.

After a year of transforming the way our Emergency Department works, on January 1, St. Anthony’s Medical Center, St. Louis, reopened its emergency doors. With new ways to get you to the right care, faster. Complex trauma, heart and stroke centers you won’t find anywhere else in South County. New, special staff dedicated solely to improving your experience – and your outcome. Here, in your own backyard.

What’s different?

• We’ve dramatically decreased the time it takes for a patient to see a doctor. In November 2013, we averaged 24 minutes. We’ve accomplished this through physical remodeling and improved patient flow processes.

• The patient experience has improved. We’ve hired additional staff, including new patient advocates who help communicate with the patient and their families; and improved communication with the patient’s physician.

• We’ve physically changed the Emergency Department, allowing for six flexible triage rooms and an EMS and Patient Flow Communications Center. A new Fast Track area assists ED staff and doctors in assessing quickly our patients’ needs, providing immediate medical treatment and discharging or moving patients to appropriate care areas.

What remains the same?

• We’ve done all of this while still maintaining our exceptionally high level of capabilities, including our Level II Trauma Center and Accredited Stroke Center. This means you can take comfort in knowing St. Anthony’s staff and physicians have the highest level of capabilities to care for you no matter what brings you to the South County Emergency Department.
