Ukrainian doctors tour St. Anthony's Hospice

Hospice and Home Director distributes information
Marsha Van Nest, director of Hospice and Home Care, hands out information packets.

The Fern and Russell F. de Greeff Hospice House was the destination Sept. 1 of an international delegation of physicians from Eastern Europe, who learned about  St. Anthony's Hospice program and toured the facility.

Their visit was hosted by Edward L. Burns, M.D., medical director of St. Anthony's Hospice program; and Marsha Van Nest, director of Hospice and Home Care. The only facility of its kind in the state of Missouri, de Greeff Hospice House provides end-of-life care to 20 patients. More than 100 additional patients live in their homes and are cared for through the Hospice program.

The delegates, screened and selected by the U.S. Department of Commerce, included physicians and surgeons from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine as part of the Department of Commerce's Special American Business Internship Training Program (SABIT). Their goal is to return home with the skills and knowledge necessary to effect change and make improvements within their own organizations, countries and regions.
