Dr. Williams accepts the National Catholic Elementary Schools Distinguished Graduate Award from The Rev. Dennis Schmidt.
Tonya Williams, M.D., left, a pediatrician at Cardinal Glennon Pediatric Emergency Care at St. Anthony’s Medical Center, accepts the National Catholic Elementary Schools Distinguished Graduate Award from The Rev. Dennis Schmidt, pastor of Good Shepherd Elementary Catholic School in Hillsboro. A native of Cedar Hill, Dr. Williams graduated from Good Shepherd in 1991 and from St. Pius X Catholic High School in Festus in 1995. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Maryville University and her medical degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia Medical School. She joined the staff of Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center Jan. 1, 2008, and began working in the pediatric emergency department at St. Anthony’s two months later.
The award, presented through the National Catholic Educational Association, honored Dr. Williams as a graduate who “exemplifies the highest qualities of Catholic education and has rendered distinguished service to the Catholic Church and the United States of America.” In accepting the award, Dr. Williams credited Good Shepherd School for giving her a good foundation in ethics and moral judgment and for being a great help in her career formation.
