St. Anthony’s Medical Center has received a $25,000 grant from the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. (NBCF) to provide free screening mammograms for area uninsured and underinsured women.
“We are thrilled with the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s generosity in providing us with this grant,” said Judi Elston, manager of St. Anthony’s Breast Center. “There is a tremendous need in the community for this service and this grant will allow St. Anthony’s to continue to provide screening mammograms to women who could not otherwise avail themselves of the potentially lifesaving benefits of early detection of breast cancer.”
NBCF is a non-profit, charitable foundation that has funded mammography and early detection programs since 1991. The Foundation also funds breast cancer research, though its main focus is on saving lives through early detection, especially among women with little or no access to health care.
The funds, provided by NBCF as part of St. Anthony’s Tour of Hope program, are available for women ages 35 to 64 who need a mammogram and/or ultrasound who do not have insurance or who are underinsured. The program does not cover women younger than 35, men or patients needing biopsies, surgery or treatment. Mammograms through St. Anthony’s Tour of Hope are available only at St. Anthony’s Breast Center, which provides state-of-the-art services for women’s breast care needs in one location, including digital mammography systems, ultrasound and breast biopsy. St. Anthony’s Breast Center is located on the main level of St. Anthony’s Medical Plaza at 12700 Southfork Road, just south of the main hospital campus.
Women in financial need who need mammograms should call St. Anthony’s scheduling department at 314-525-1300. Proof of income is not required.
