St. Anthony’s Charitable Foundation’s Physician Ambassadors recently presented a check for $10,000 to benefit the Institute of Family Medicine’s Hancock Health Center.
The Hancock Health Center clinic has been open for 10 years, but after recent budget cutbacks by the Hancock Place School District, the future of the center was uncertain. The $10,000 grant was awarded to keep the center operating for the 2012-13 school year.
The clinic is a resource for the underserved in the area, providing free care for individuals living in the school district. Insurance, Medicare and Medicaid are billed if patients are eligible. The clinic, which is easily accessible to students and parents who do not have a primary care provider, is open from 1 to 4 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays.
“The Physician Ambassadors are proud to provide the funding allowing this established clinic to continue operations in an underserved area,” said Joseph Forand, M.D., chairman of St. Anthony’s Charitable Foundation’s Physician Ambassadors. “We are especially proud that one of our own, Dr. David Campbell, maintains this clinic.”
St. Anthony’s Physician Ambassadors raise funds by hosting an annual dinner. Funds raised are distributed to area not-for-profits through the Ambassadors’ community health grants program.
