Physician Ambassadors present $32,000 check to benefit hospice care

St. Anthony's Charitable Foundation's Physician Ambassadors recently presented a check for $32,000 to benefit St. Anthony's Hospice and the Fern & Russell F. de Greeff Hospice’s Charity Care Fund.

St. Anthony’s Charitable Foundation’s Physician Ambassadors recently presented a check for $32,000 to benefit St. Anthony’s Hospice and the Fern & Russell F. de Greeff Hospice’s Charity Care Fund.

The Physician Ambassadors raise funds by hosting an annual dinner.  Last year’s dinner at Sunset Country Club was attended by 180 philanthropic physicians and guests and netted more than $74,000 – $32,000 of that was presented to St. Anthony’s Hospice and the de Greeff Hospice House’s Charity Care Fund on Friday, Jan. 27. The remaining funds will be distributed throughout 2012 to area not-for-profits through the Ambassadors’ community health grants program, which provides grants of $5,000 or less to charities benefiting St. Anthony’s service area. Recent grant recipients include St. Louis Crisis Nursery, STEP UP! Drug Free Coalition, Affton Christian Food Pantry and Deaconess Parish Nurse Ministry.

St. Anthony’s Hospice annually provides more than $600,000 in charity care for terminally ill patients.  This gift will provide pain management, skilled care, comfort and dignity to uninsured and underinsured patients facing terminal illness.  St. Anthony’s Hospice is a special model of care featuring the Fern & Russell F. de Greeff Hospice House, the only home-like facility available to patients in eastern Missouri.
