Same-Day surgery earns national honors for performance

Lesley Nikirk, nurse manager of Same-Day Surgery, accepts St. Anthony’s “Ambulatory Care Unit Award” for outstanding performance in patient care from Quint Studer, founder and CEO of the Studer Group.

St. Anthony’s was one of 49 hospitals nationwide, and the only hospital in Missouri, to receive an “Excellence in Patient Care” award from the Studer Group®, a healthcare performance improvement and leadership development firm.

St. Anthony’s was the only hospital honored with the “Ambulatory Care Unit Award,” for outstanding performance in patient care. The unit consistently scores in the 90th percentile or better in patient satisfaction. Lesley Nikirk, R.N., nurse manager of St. Anthony’s Same Day Surgery, said those exceptional scores are no accident.

“The thing that is different at St. Anthony’s is they are not our ‘patients’, they’re our ‘company’, who have come to our house—and that is how we treat them,” Nikirk said. “Happy employees equals happy patients; to give our patients the best, we have to be the best. I am so proud to work for an organization that has invested so much time and effort into not only its employees, but also the community.”

Studer Group® founder and CEO Quint Studer presented the “Special Category” awards at the eighth annual “What’s Right in Health Care” conference last month. He said, “All the award winners have demonstrated their deep commitment to the well-being of their patients. I am proud to work with organizations that are making such a difference.”
