$90 million hospital redesign completed for pediatrics ED, cardiology, surgery and orthopedics

St. Anthony's Medical Center's John K. Pruellage Heart & Vascular Center

St. Anthony's Medical Center's John K. Pruellage Heart & Vascular Center was completed in October 2008. In May 2010, St. Anthony's new Heart and Vascular Institute opened within the Pavilion.

St. Anthony’s Medical Center broke ground in June 2006 for a $90 million hospital redesign and construction project.  Four years later, that project is complete.

December 2007

St. Anthony’s new Cardinal Glennon Pediatric Emergency Care welcomed its first patients.  Located adjacent to the main Emergency Department, the kid-friendly facility includes 13 pediatric treatment rooms and three 23-hour observation rooms and is managed in partnership with Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center.

October 2008

St. Anthony’s John K. Pruellage Heart & Vascular Center, a four-story surgery and patient-care tower that includes 64 private patient rooms, a 16-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit, 10 state-of-the-art surgery suites and 34 same-day surgery rooms, was completed.  Above the operating rooms, a two-floor Heart Hospital offers private rooms for cardiology patients.

The John K. Pruellage Heart & Vascular Center incorporates biophilic design, which integrates elements of nature believed to augment the healing process.  It includes a Healing Garden, where patients and visitors can relax in a tranquil setting of fountains, plants and flowers.

August 2009

St. Anthony’s new Ortho-Spine Center opened.  The center provides comprehensive services for patients with orthopedic and spinal needs.  A “horizontal hospital within a hospital,” it includes 62 all-private patient rooms, specifically designed to care for post-operative orthopedic patients.

May 2010

St. Anthony’s new Heart and Vascular Institute opened.  One of only a handful of its kind in the country, the facility groups three interventional radiology suites, three cardiac catheterization labs, two electrophysiological labs and an endovascular lab together in one area.

“This truly is a re-commitment by St. Anthony’s to the people in south St. Louis County, Jefferson County and Monroe County, Ill., that we will continue to provide the best in tertiary care,” said Tom Rockers, president and chief executive officer of St. Anthony’s.
