6/13/2012: Free 'Safe Space Camp' designed to help grieving teens
The death of someone loved can be an especially difficult experience for adolescents and teens. Experiencing death and the intense feelings of grief and loss that follow makes teens feel different from their friends.
To help, St. Anthony's Hospice offers a three-day, free Safe Space Camp each summer. The camp is designed to help adolescents and teens who are grieving the death of a loved one. It gives teens the opportunity to share stories, honor losses, learn about grief and discuss what comes next.
Safe Space Camp is about providing a therapeutic, creative environment where teens can come together to process their losses with others who have had similar experiences and, hopefully, have fun along the way.
In addition to daily professionally facilitated peer panel discussions (arranged in age appropriate groupings), campers will be able to choose from activities such as:
Camp participants also are offered individual time with professional counselors and the chance to get to know other teens experiencing loss through the death of a loved one.
Snacks, lunch and water are provided. For information about Safe Space Camp, call 314-543-6872.
For information, please call our Health Access Line at 314-ANTHONY (268-4669) or 800-554-9550 or visit find a physician online.
