Fox 2’s Tim Ezell Is True Family Man

Tim Ezell and family at Fox 2 station

You may know him as that wacky reporter on KTVI-TV Channel 2’s morning show, but to 5-year-old Halle, 2-year-old Lexi and 10-month-old Andrew, Tim Ezell is simply “dad.”

The veteran reporter on Fox 2 In The Morning in St. Louis, Tim Ezell has been hamming it up for local television viewers for nine years. “I’ve been everything from a giant Slurpee to a race car driver to a short-order cook,” he says with a laugh. “I try to put a smile on people’s faces in the morning and I have fun at my job.”

Up at 3 a.m. for work, Ezell transforms into “family man” the minute he walks through the door at home. “It’s day-to-day things, like getting to spend time with my kids, teaching them things and enjoying parenting with my wife. Being a dad is just awesome.”

All three of the Ezell children were born at St. Anthony’s Family Birth Center. Far from family in Fort Worth, Texas, the Ezells were thrilled with their obstetrician and with the help available to new and not-so-new moms.

“The experience was great,” says Kim Ezell. “We went through the Lamaze class before Halle was born. She was about three weeks premature, but she did just fine. I remember we loved our delivery nurse so much that we went back to visit her before we left the hospital.”

And then there were phone calls to the Birth Center and, later, visits to a lactation consultant. “We loved being able to call the nurses just to ask questions. They were there 24 hours a day and it definitely eased our minds,” Kim says.

Ezell says he really took notice of the skill of the delivery team when Andrew was born last year. “I noticed right away he wasn’t crying at first,” he says. “But everyone stayed so calm and reassuring that I didn’t have time to worry. It was all under control in a few minutes.”

Kim had dilated from 2 centimeters to 10 centimeters in less than an hour during her labor. Andrew’s heart rate had accelerations, so the team moved quickly to get him delivered.

The skill of the nursing team at St. Anthony’s definitely helps when you have to move fast, but it’s also reassuring to know that neonatal nurse practitioners and neonatologists are at the hospital to assist if need be.

We were fine in this case, and Andrew’s doing great.” With three kids, Ezell says he has a full house and a full life. “I can be crazy at work and do all kinds of things there, but when I get home, my focus is on my family.”
