Late Nights at Fenton

6:30 p.m. Monday , Fenton — Two men hurry through the door of St. Anthony’s Urgent Care Center in Fenton. “We need help!” says one man as he brings his friend inside. The medical team rapidly swings into action to treat a wound on the man’s forehead.
“I was cutting firewood and put a chain saw against the end of a log and it came back on me and hit me between the eyes,” says Larry Jones, a Fenton resident, as he holds a towel to his head. After a thorough exam and receiving more than a dozen stitches to close two parallel gashes in his forehead, Jones is sent home less than 90 minutes after he first arrived.
“He’s a lucky guy,” says Donn Richards, MD. “He could have lost an eye, fractured his skull or even killed himself with that kind of injury, but we took care of it.”

So begins the night shift at Fenton Urgent Care. In the space of just two hours, the medical team treats walk-in patients suffering from stomach disorders, rashes, ear infections, suspected fractures and injuries from a motorcycle accident. “I don’t have a broken elbow, thank goodness, but I’m going to be sore from severe road rash,” says High Ridge resident Tracy Heitert, who was headed to her shift at the Antonia Fire Department when her motorcycle skidded on gravel and crashed along the shoulder of Hwy. 21.
“It’s wonderful to be able to come here at night,” says Valley Park resident Ellen DiCarlo, as her daughter, Callie, 4, is treated for an ear infection. “When your child is sick and crying, you don’t like waiting until morning. This is quick and easy.”
