Pastoral Care Services

At St. Anthony's Medical Center, we know being in a hospital with an illness or injury can be frightening or lonely for many individuals and their families. We also know that spiritual care is an important part of the healing process. Our chaplains and other pastoral care representatives are available anytime to offer spiritual comfort.

Chaplains

Our chaplains are specifically trained to meet the religious and/or spiritual needs of all patients – no matter the denomination or spiritual affiliation. Because each person’s needs are different, we provide a variety of individualized services. The chaplains are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to:

  • Actively listen to any concerns you or your family may have
  • Administer rites and sacraments
  • Help in times of crisis
  • Discuss ethical concerns
  • Discuss issues such as loss, death, grief, divorce or lifestyle changes
  • Offer information about organ and tissue donation
  • Offer prayers and spiritual rituals
  • Provide spiritual direction

Chapel Services

St. Anthony's chapel, located on the main level, is open 24 hours a day for prayer and meditation. In addition:

  • A prayer service, open to all patients, family members and visitors, is offered each weekday morning at 8 a.m.
  • Catholic Masses are celebrated in the chapel at 11:30 a.m., Monday through Friday, and at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
  • Ecumenical worship services are provided upon request.
  • Masses and ecumenical services are also offered on religious and some secular holidays.
  • For patients who are unable to leave their rooms, all Masses and religious services are televised.

Sacraments

Holy Communion is distributed daily to our Catholic patients by chaplains and trained volunteer Eucharistic ministers from neighboring parishes. The sacraments of Anointing of the Sick and Reconciliation are available upon request. Communion is available to patients of other denominations upon request.
