Heart Care Services
Accredited Chest Pain Center

Did You Know?
A recent study in the journal Circulation found that patients were less likely to die if they were treated in hospitals that have a designated Chest Pain Center.
St. Anthony’s Medical Center is the first Missouri hospital to receive national accreditation for its Chest Pain Center.
Criteria
1. Ability to rapidly coordinate initial evaluation for chest pain by local EMS crews with emergency care by hospital physicians.
2. Ability to decrease the “door-to-wire” time, or the speed at which patients are moved from the Emergency Department to a cardiac catheterization lab to remove coronary artery blockages.
When you’re having a heart attack, the amount of time that elapses from the onset of symptoms to treatment to correct the problem makes all the difference.
Chest Pain Unit
St. Anthony’s also has a dedicated 16-bed Chest Pain Unit, used for the evaluation of patients who have chest pain but are not having an actual heart attack. There, patients undergo numerous medical tests to rapidly determine the underlying cause of their pain.
The Center makes a tremendous difference in the treatment of patients with chest pain. It saves patients’ time, tissue, and lives.
