Pediatric Emergency Department
Patients Come First
First in Medical Care
St. Anthony's is a well-respected tertiary care facility, offering advanced medical treatment in a number of specialties, including cardiology, women’s services, oncology/cancer care, orthopedics, neurology and emergency medicine.
- As the region’s only community hospital with a nationally certified Primary Stroke Center, St. Anthony's has the expertise and technological resources to quickly diagnose and treat any type of stroke within one hour of arrival. In addition, St. Anthony's is one of only three hospitals in the St. Louis area to have been recertified as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center.
- St. Anthony's was the region’s first medical center to receive national accreditation for its Chest Pain Center and one of only two hospitals in the St. Louis metropolitan area to earn a Cycle 2 accreditation – the highest level of accreditation available. The expertise and coordinated care from the earliest stages found at our Chest Pain Center and our dedicated 16-bed Chest Pain Unit are saving patients’ time and lives.
- In partnership with Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center, a dedicated pediatric emergency department provides the best pediatric care close to home. An experienced and dedicated team of pediatric emergency physicians and nurses meet the special needs of the more than 15,000 children who turn to St. Anthony’s for emergency care each year.
First in Quality
St. Anthony's Medical Center strives for excellence and is committed to continually improving quality.
- For three years in a row, St. Anthony’s Medical Center has been named one of the nation’s “Top 100 Hospitals” as a performance improvement leader by Thomson Healthcare (formerly Solucient). The designation means we demonstrated consistent year-over-year improvement of the health services for the people in our community.
- St. Anthony's is among the top five percent nationally for patient safety, according to a recent quality study by HealthGrades, the nation’s leading healthcare ratings company. This achievement earns us the honor of being named a Distinguished Hospital for Patient Safety.
- All our managers are taught customer service excellence principles from The Studer Group, a well-respected organization specializing in leading practices in patient, physician and employee satisfaction.
- The Acute Rehab Department has received its second three-year accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), an organization that accredits providers based on quality of services. Only 13 other programs in the state have received this CARF accreditation.
- For the third year in a row, the Breast Center and Mammography Suite have received perfect scores on their annual site inspections, conducted in accordance with the federal Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA). There are only 179 facilities in Missouri that have received this certification.
First in Facilities
St. Anthony's is making a major re-investment for the south St. Louis County region by undergoing a $90 million hospital re-design. When complete in 2010, the project will include:
- Cardinal Glennon Pediatric Emergency Care at St. Anthony's Medical Center, a separate pediatric emergency department.
- Heart and Surgical Pavilion, the four-story “heart hospital within a hospital,” offering the latest in medical technology and patient-centered care.
- Ortho-Spine Center, dedicated to providing everything the ortho-spine patient needs – nursing care, therapies and related services – conveniently located on one floor.
- Renovation of existing hospital space will create 14 additional surgery suites, a new interventional platform with equipment needed to accommodate a variety of imaging procedures such as interventional radiology, cardiac catheterization, cardiac electrophysiology and endovascular procedures and post-anesthesia recovery rooms.
Another major investment in our primary and secondary service areas includes the opening of a fourth urgent care center, Big Bend Urgent Care, to serve the Kirkwood, Webster Groves, Sunset Hills, Crestwood and Affton communities. Additionally, digital mammography and an open MRI have been added to the services offered at the Fenton Urgent Care. More than 115,700 patients visited St. Anthony’s urgent cares last year.

At St. Anthony's, our vision is to be the area's premier health care organization — and your first choice for health care services.
