When you speak to people who remember the "original" St. Anthony's, more often than not, you will hear stories about how the Franciscan Sisters there often looked beyond the hospital walls for opportunities to serve people in need throughout their South St. Louis neighborhood.

The Sisters saw those charitable efforts as a natural extension of their mission to heal and care for the poor. While St. Anthony's Medical Center has changed a great deal since that time, one important element of our heritage remains in place –our identity as a Catholic hospital, focused on touching people's lives with compassion and care.

We pursue our mission – to provide the best care to every patient, every day – by working hard to ensure that our clinical practices are true centers of excellence, staffed by highly skilled people and supported by state-of-the-art medicines and technologies. But we also believe that the Franciscan heritage of servant leadership is an important part of who we are.

Just like the Sisters who founded St. Anthony's, our spirit of service extends beyond the Medical Center campus – in a wide variety of efforts to enhance the quality of life in our region.
