How is breast cancer diagnosed?
There are a number of diagnostic tests used to confirm a diagnosis of breast cancer. The two main types of diagnostic tools used are:
- Imaging tests: Using various imaging technologies, your doctor aims to get a detailed, accurate image of the mass and surrounding area.
- Biopsy: Your doctor removes a piece of the suspicious mass and sends it to a pathology lab for analysis. A biopsy is a minimally invasive procedure and can provide a definitive diagnosis.
