Breast cancer diagnosis

Perhaps you felt a lump during your monthly breast self-exam. Or maybe your yearly mammogram showed a suspicious mass. You may be worried that the lump is malignant. At St. Anthony’s Cancer Care Center, we use the most advanced technologies to diagnose breast cancer quickly and accurately.

Fast-track diagnosis

Sometimes, the hardest part about the diagnostic phase is the waiting. You want an answer, so you can plan the next steps. We want to eliminate the stress you feel as you wait for a diagnosis. With our fast-track service, you get your answers as quickly as possible. Our fast-track program is designed around your convenience. Your health care team works to get accurate images and biopsies quickly, including same-day follow-up tests. This way, if the diagnosis is cancer, you can begin treatment right away.

How is breast cancer diagnosed?

There are a number of diagnostic tests used to confirm a diagnosis of breast cancer. The two main types of diagnostic tools used are:

  • Imaging tests: Using various imaging technologies, your doctor aims to get a detailed, accurate image of the mass and surrounding area.
  • Biopsy: Your doctor removes a piece of the suspicious mass and sends it to a pathology lab for analysis. A biopsy is a minimally invasive procedure and can provide a definitive diagnosis.
