Get With The Guidelines–Stroke Gold Plus Achievement Award with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus 2018

Recognizing the symptoms, seeking immediate treatment, and receiving treatment based on the latest, evidence-based guidelines are all key to patients surviving a stroke.

For the third straight year, St. Anthony’s Medical Center is being honored for providing the appropriate stroke treatment to increase the chance of a speedy recovery and reduce the risk of death. The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association awarded St. Anthony’s with its Get With The Guidelines–Stroke Gold Plus Achievement Award with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus.

St. Anthony’s earned the award by meeting specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients at a set level for a designated period.

“This honor recognizes the hard work of our stroke team to continue providing the level of stroke care our community has come to expect from us,” said Elizabeth Schelp, RN, Stroke Program Manager.

To receive the Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award, hospitals must achieve 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines-Stroke achievement indicators for two or more consecutive 12-month periods and achieve 75 percent or higher compliance with five of eight Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality measures.

To qualify for the Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus, hospitals must meet quality measures developed to reduce the time between the patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with the clot-buster tissue plasminogen activator, or tPA, the only drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat ischemic stroke. If given intravenously in the first three hours after the start of stroke symptoms, tPA has been shown to reduce significantly the effects of stroke and lessen the chance of permanent disability.

St. Anthony’s is certified by the state of Missouri as a Level 1 Stroke Center, the highest level of stroke care available. It is one of a few certified hospitals in the St. Louis region and the southernmost hospital in the metro area to receive the certification.
