Affton School District Honors Nurse Educator with SOAR Award

The Affton School District has honored Dawn Wotawa Bennett, BSN, RN, with its prestigious Service and Outstanding Achievement Recognition (SOAR) Award.
 
Dawn is an Education Specialist with St. Anthony’s Medical Center whose work includes mentoring high school students who attend class at St. Anthony’s through the St. Louis Centers for Advanced Professional Students (STL CAPS) program. She was one of 33 nominees for the award and is one of seven award winners.
 
“These nominees encompass the excellence of character, performance, leadership, and service inherent to the SOAR Awards,” said Tom Bellavia, president of the Affton Board of Education. “They give of their time, their evenings, their weekends, and they certainly make a difference in each of our schools and in our community.”
 
This is the 21st year the Affton School District has honored staff members, volunteers and community partners with the SOAR Awards. Learn more about this year’s program from the Affton School District.
 
The STL CAPS program provides specialized educational opportunities for students from five high schools in four south county districts. This year, students from Affton, Mehlville and Oakville high school are participating in the health strand with classes held each day at St. Anthony’s. Learn more about this program from STL CAPS.
