Excellence in Heart Care — The Beat Goes On

St. Anthony’s Establishes Heart Care Fund

As St. Anthony’s continues to enhance its services and technology for heart patients, the hospital is gaining recognition as the area leader for treating erratic or fluttering heartbeats, called heart arrhythmias. Last year, St. Anthony’s debuted a 3-D color heart mapping system with GPS technology, in its state-of-the-art Electrophysiology Lab, to treat heart arrhythmias. “Live 3-D imaging enables us to perform cardiac ablation procedures with pinpoint accuracy to treat these electrical problems in the heart,” says Greg Botteron, MD, a renowned cardiologist and electrophysiologist, who specializes in ablation techniques that destroy tiny areas of abnormal tissue, while preserving healthy heart muscle. Already, many patients have traveled here from across the state.

“My cardiologist referred me to St. Anthony’s because Dr. Botteron has performed more than 1,200 of these procedures,” says David Sampl of O’Fallon, Mo., who underwent the ablation procedure last October for uncontrolled bouts of erratic heartbeats. “I can’t say enough about the excellent care team and Dr. Botteron’s expertise. Thanks to them, my long-term outlook is good.”

St. Anthony’s Charitable Foundation recently established a Heart Care Fund, to help raise funds for a second Electrophysiology Lab and other life-saving heart services, including cardiac rehabilitation and preventive care programs. Tax deductible contributions may be made to the Foundation by visiting www.sacf-giving.org or call 314-ANTHONY (268-4669) for more information.
