St. Anthony's and SLU expand their partnership

In a growing partnership that already spans vascular surgery, surgical oncology and a solid list in between, St. Anthony's Medical Center is collaborating again with Saint Louis University School of Medicine to offer high-quality neurosurgical services. The agreement will place three full-time SLU-affiliated neurosurgeons, accompanied by SLU medical students and fellows, at St. Anthony's in an effort to expand educational opportunities and clinical studies.
“Our surgeons are respected nationally and internationally for their work, and they teach all over the world,” says Saleem Abdulrauf, MD, professor of neurosurgery at SLU and director of its Center for Cerebrovascular and Skull Base Surgery. “St. Anthony's has the technology and services that allow us to perform complicated neurosurgical procedures. This expanding relationship enables us to provide high-level care at both institutions.”
In this unique relationship, St. Anthony's will augment its state-of-the-art facilities and advanced technologies with a new educational component, while SLU will offer students skill enhancement through a higher volume of clinical patients.
Says Paul Young, MD, chief of Neurosurgery at St. Anthony's and clinical member of SLU's faculty: “Residents provide a great stimulus for excellence in patient care, and I know patients will enjoy and appreciate the added enthusiasm they bring to their care. As for the physicians, teaching only makes you better at what you do.”
