Spring 2010

therapist works one-on-one with patient

It’s fabulous because they work with me one-on-one for each exercise.

–Lily Rengstorf, South St. Louis County resident

One-on-One Therapy is No. 1 with Patients

Individual attention produces optimal results

Lily Rengstorf learns strength training under the watchful eye of Gina Guebert, PTA, physical therapist assistant.

South St. Louis County resident Lily Rengstorf walks into St. Anthony’s Sports & Therapy Services with a smile on her face. “I can’t help it,” she says. “The therapists are terrific. They really want you to succeed.” Rengstorf initially was referred for outpatient therapy to regain mobility and flexibility after foot surgery. She later was referred for therapy again because of back pain. At St. Anthony’s, all outpatient therapy patients are treated one-on-one with a therapist to optimize results. The individualized care allows patients to focus as well as better understand how and why they do exercises.

“This approach is essential if you want patients to achieve good outcomes,” says neurosurgeon Paul Young, MD, who has referred patients for years. “Not every program offers one-to-one therapy, but this heightens opportunities for patient education and injury prevention.” Says Rengstorf, “it’s fabulous!”
