New Heart and Vascular Institute imaging equipment

Cardiologist Greg Botteron, MD, showcases the 3-Dimensional Heart Mapping System–the only one of its kind in the region–that enables him to build highly accurate models of each patient’s heart prior to surgery.

New Heart and Vascular Institute Debuts

Premier destination for cardiac emergencies uniquely blends top expertise and technology

WARNING: Coronary heart disease is the No. 1 cause of death in the U.S.

St. Anthony’s Medical Center recently opened a new Heart and Vascular Institute, located in St. Anthony’s Heart and Surgical Pavilion—one of only a handful in the entire country.

The Institute uniquely groups together three interventional radiology suites, three cardiac catheterization labs, two electrophysiological labs and an endovascular lab all in one area.

The Institute was built with patients in mind. The labs are adjacent so that physicians and staff can move from one to another and share equipment and expertise.

Dr. Botteron discusses 3-Dimensional Heart Mapping

The heart is often considered the most important organ in the body. With all of the complex and complicated aspects of this life-sustaining organ, its operation actually comes down to two simple systems: plumbing and electrical. When the heart is unable to supply life-giving blood and oxygen to the rest of the body due to a damaged pumping system, impaired valves or clogged vessels, it’s a “plumbing” problem. When an impulse causes the heart to begin beating erratically, disrupting the normal rhythm between the upper and lower chambers and setting the stage for heart failure or stroke, it’s an “electrical” problem.

The new Institute has the technology and expertise to focus on both the heart’s plumbing and electrical problems. Add to that the medical center’s designation as an accredited Chest Pain Center, and St. Anthony’s is now considered a premier location for cardiac emergencies and care.
