Breast Center fast-track program is perfect for women on the go
As owner of Hotel Ste. Genevieve, Jami Inman wears many hats and works long hours. She has a demanding schedule; so when she needed a diagnostic mammogram, she relied on St. Anthony’s fast-track service.
Jami Inman is a blur of motion at the Hotel Ste. Genevieve. As owner, Inman not only oversees the 107-year-old bed and breakfast hotel, she also takes a turn behind the grill and greets customers in its popular restaurant.
“My average work day is 12 to 14 hours,” she says, as she sends a meal out of the kitchen. “I don’t have time to get sick or spend days undergoing medical tests.”
That’s why St. Anthony’s Breast Center was the perfect place for Inman to schedule a diagnostic mammogram. The Center, accredited by the American College of Radiology, reviews 22,000 mammograms annually and has a fast-track policy when it comes to identifying abnormalities.
“There are five experienced radiologists here for immediate review of imaging scans,” says Judi Elston, manager of the Breast Center. “If something suspicious is found, we usually schedule a diagnostic mammogram, ultrasound or even a biopsy the same day we call them back or by the next day.”
Inman, who has a family history of cancer, came to St. Anthony’s Medical Center after her gynecologist found a lump in her breast. A diagnostic mammogram confirmed a mass and Inman opted for a core needle biopsy that afternoon. Tissue samples immediately were sent for evaluation and Inman had an answer the next day.
“Thank goodness, I was fine,” she says. “I don’t have the time, emotionally or physically, to think about stuff like this; so the convenience of getting everything done and knowing the results within 24 hours was wonderful.”
Inman pauses to greet 89-year-old Andy Wilder at breakfast. “I have to be here to say hello to my regular customers,” she says with a laugh. “Why would I waste time scheduling many days off when I can get it all done fast? St. Anthony’s understands a woman’s busy lifestyle, and I’m definitely busy all of the time!”
