A 'Jewel' in South County

New Ortho-Spine Center offers comprehensive services, extensive expertise and patient convenience

You've played hard, your joints are wearing out, and you're looking for the right place to have orthopedic surgery. Look no farther than the new Ortho-Spine Center at St. Anthony’s Medical Center.

“St. Anthony’s has always had excellent nurses and therapy staff who are experienced in orthopedic care,” says south St. Louis County orthopedic surgeon David Fagan, MD. “The new orthopedic center, with private rooms and special amenities, enhances the care our patients receive.”

As part of its $90 million hospital redesign, St. Anthony’s specialty orthopedic and spine center covers the entire third floor of the medical center. Complete with 62 private patient rooms, a dedicated gym for in-hospital physical and occupational therapy, and a transitional apartment for patients to move about in a home-like atmosphere under the watchful eyes of therapists, the unit is designed for maximum patient care and convenience.

“We couldn’t have been more pleased to see what’s here,” says Bruce Hopson, president of the South County Chamber of Commerce, who attended an open house at the center. “St. Anthony’s has always been a pillar in our community, and this is another example of how the hospital has invested in the community to bring state-of-the-art healthcare to our neighborhoods.”

Patient rooms are equipped with double doors and wheelchair accessible sinks, bathrooms and showers. Some rooms also have 600-pound capacity patient safety lifts.

For those undergoing total joint replacement surgery, a popular and long-running Total Joint Preparation Class helps to put prospective patients at ease. Families can obtain prescriptions and home medical equipment prior to leaving the hospital, making it easier for patients to head directly home with everything they need. Home health care services and outpatient therapy also are coordinated by the hospital.

“It’s a jewel in South County,” says Missouri State Sen. Jim Lembke, who recently toured the center. “St. Anthony’s consistently shows that it is investing back into our local community and we shouldn’t forget that we have the best healthcare right in our own backyard.”
