Getting Started

In order to participate in our vestibular rehabilitation program, you need a prescription from your primary care physician or specialist. If you have any questions regarding outpatient physical therapy, or to schedule an appointment, please call our convenient location at 314-849-2366. Have your insurance cards and physician order available when you call.

Improving Quality of Life

Through the Vestibular Rehabilitation program at St. Anthony’s, we provide effective and compassionate treatment for people dealing with dizziness and balance disorders. Our caring and experienced professional staff will design a treatment plan unique to each individual. We will work with you to restore function and improve the overall quality of life.

Understanding Vestibular/Balance Dysfunctions

Vestibular/balance dysfunction may involve the inner ear, the nerve to the ear, the brain or the sensory systems that regulate balance.

Symptoms of this dysfunction are varied but may include:

  • Dizziness/lightheadedness
  • Falling, difficulty walking straight
  • The sensation of motion even when you are not moving
  • Increased or temporary dizziness associated with head motion Nausea, particularly with change in positions
  • Double/blurred vision

Treating Your Unique Needs

The Vestibular Program’s specially trained therapists will perform an in-depth evaluation in order to design a treatment program to reduce your symptoms and/or teach you coping strategies.

Since vestibular/balance problems may interfere with basic functions and your ability to enjoy life, your goals are at the forefront of therapy.

Treatment may include any of the following:

  • Eye strengthening exercises
  • Positional exercises for the inner ear
  • Balance and gait training
  • Coping strategies
We educate all patients on the purpose and importance of each exercise. Patients are given a home program that should be followed as prescribed by the therapist.
