Understanding neurological conditions
A neurological condition is any disorder that affects the nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord, and nerves of the body. Nearly one in six people in the world are affected by a neurological condition (stroke, head injury, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and multiple sclerosis).
Symptoms of neurological conditions vary greatly depending upon the disorder but may include:
- Difficulty walking or moving around
- Difficulty getting dressed or caring for one's daily needs
- Difficulty concentrating
- Falling, trouble with balance
- Difficulty communicating with others
Treating your unique needs
Our highly skilled therapists will perform in-depth one-on-one evaluation in order to design a treatment program to address your specific needs.
The physical therapist will focus on recovery of walking, balance/coordination, mobility, and strength in the legs and trunk.
The occupational therapist will focus on recovery of arm and hand function, performance of daily activities in the home (bathing, dressing, toileting, and safe meal prep), and return to work, hobbies and activities in the community.
The speech therapist will focus on recovery of speech, swallowing (e.g. VitalStim), cognition and safety, including improving short-and long-term memory and return to work and family activities.
Neurological Rehabilitation addresses patients who are suffering from injury or disease affecting the nervous system of the body (brain, spinal cord, nerves). These conditions may include:
- Incomplete spinal cord injury
- Traumatic brain injury
- Multiple sclerosis
- Cerebral palsy
- Parkinson’s disease
- Peripheral neuropathy
- Diabetic neuropathy
