Therapeutic Recreation

Therapeutic recreation is designed to meet the leisure and psychosocial needs of each patient. By gathering background information regarding former leisure activities, a therapeutic recreation specialist can assist patients in rekindling past interests or guide them into a variety of new leisure time pursuits. At St. Anthony’s Medical Center, the therapeutic recreation specialist is responsible for various individual and group activities. The therapist also oversees patient and family support groups (Stroke Club, Stroke Panel, Amputee Support Group) as well as an innovative community re-entry program designed to help patients transition from a hospital setting back into their community.
