Food Service

St. Anthony’s Nutrition Services offers nutritious meals for patients within their physicians’ guidelines. Each day, a patient has the opportunity to select meal choices from a varied menu. Patients are invited to inform their Nutrition Services representative of their meal selection in person or via a phone call. A Nutrition Services representative comes daily to each patient room to pick up the completed menu. Should a visitor wish to eat with a patient, a guest tray is available for a nominal fee.

On occasion, tests and procedures ordered by a physician may require that a patient’s meals be delayed. A nurse will notify the Nutrition Services department when meals may be resumed.

If a physician prescribes a modified diet for a patient, a registered dietitian or technician will assess his or her nutritional needs. Our expert dietitian will explain how the diet relates to that patient’s medical condition and how to adopt the physician’s prescription to a post-hospital lifestyle.

Whether a patient is on a general or modified diet, additional foods or beverages may conflict with a physician’s orders. Patients and their visitors should not bring food from home unless approved by a physician or nurse.

Personal Belongings

While at St. Anthony’s, patients are responsible for the care of their personal belongings, including eyeglasses, dentures and/or hearing aids. To ensure the safety of these items, patients should keep them in protective cases and place them in the nightstand drawer - not on top of the nightstand or on the bed. St. Anthony’s is not responsible for damage to or loss of patients’ eyeglasses, dentures and/or hearing aids.

Electrical items other than those provided by the Medical Center are not permitted. Personal television sets or plug-in radios are not allowed in any patient room. Patients may use personal grooming appliances such as electric shavers, hair dryers, electric curlers and curling irons. However, these items must be inspected by St. Anthony’s clinical engineering personnel before use to ensure compliance with Medical Center electrical standards. Call the Building Services department at 314.525.1124 for assistance.

When patients bring large sums of money; credit cards; or valuables, such as jewelry, to the Medical Center, we ask that these items be sent home with a family member or friend. At the time of admission, patients may also leave items for placement in St. Anthony’s security safe. A receipt will be provided, which will be needed to retrieve any belongings. All jewelry must be removed prior to surgery or diagnostic procedures. If a patient is scheduled for surgery, we encouraged any jewelry be left at home.
